Gut Health Workshop Ghent, Belgium: 17th – 19th of April 2018
Huvepharma® hosted a gut health workshop for poultry veterinarians, nutritionists and poultry producers from 15 European countries in Ghent (Belgium) last month. It focused on the consequences of coccidiosis, diagnosis and monitoring of the disease, and applying the appropriate coccidiosis control program, using anticoccidial products and vaccines (HuveGuard® range). Tommy Van Limbergen from the University of Ghent (Belgium) presented his recently published work on biosecurity “scoring of management and biosecurity in poultry farms”, which was part of the European Prohealth workgroup.
The theoretical part was followed by a practical session, which took place at the Faculty of Veterinary Science at the University of Ghent. In the practical session the participants were trained to evaluate coccidiosis and dysbacteriosis lesions in broilers and turkeys, as well as to score foot pad lesions in broilers. Furthermore, training was offered on coccidiosis diagnostics by microscopic examination of faecal samples (oocyst counts).
