Tylosin is a macrolide antibiotic with a bacteriostatic effect inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial proteins against Gram-positive microorganisms: Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Diplococcus spp., Erysipelothrix, Serpulina, Treponema hyodysenteriae, Leptospira spp., Mycoplasma spp., Fusobacterium spp., Bacteroides spp. (anaerobic microorganisms), Campylobacter (Vibrio) coli, Rickettsia spp., Chlamydia spp., and some large viruses. Bromhexine is a mucolytic; it liquefies the bronchial secretion and promotes its ejection from the respiratory tract (by decreasing its viscosity); thus bromhexine elevates the expectoration of the sputum and facilitates the respiration. It stimulates the production of gamma globulin in the bronchial mucosa and helps tylosin to be cumulated in high concentration in the respiratory organ thus hastening the recovery process. In managing pigs suffering from respiratory disease it is applied as an antitussive agent which calms sleep and increases weight gain. Bromhexine influences the absorption rate of tylosin, helps attaining higher blood levels maintaining the bioavailability of the antibiotic. Excretion of tylosin is mainly through urine and bile (the feces respectively), with milk in lactating animals, and also with spermal secretion of the male animals. It is compatible with tetracycline, sulphanilamides, spectinomycin, VAM-F premix (Vitamin- Antibiotic –Mineral Premix), and Biomix premix for pigs.
For treatment of enzootic bronchopneumonia complex (with or without secondary bacterial infection), atrophic rhinitis, pharyngitis, tracheobronchitis; campylobacterial (vibrionic) enteritis, swine dysentery; erysipelas, leptospirosis in pigs.
No contraindications for the medicinal product are established.
Orally, with the drinking water (as a drinking solution only).
The prescribed dose is preliminarily dissolved in a small quantity of water by adding the water to the preparation (not vice versa). Then the mixture is diluted with water until the desired concentration is reached.
Pigs.
For prevention of enzootic bronchopneumonia and atrophic rhinitis the product is applied at a concentration of 1.25 g/1 l of drinking water in the course of 10-14 days split into 2 periods of 5-7 days each with an interval of 5-7 days between the periods.
For therapeutic treatment the preparation is administered at the same concentration (1.25 g/1 l of drinking water) in the course of 14 to 21 days without interruption (for quicker absorption into pneumonic areas and for reduction of the hazard for occurrence of persistent infections)
In certain cases (rarely), edema in the anus area, rectal prolapse, erythema and skin itching can possibly occur. These signs cease after termination of the application (without additional treatment).
For meat of swine - 3 days after the last administration of the preparation.
