Oxytocin - 10 IU/ ml
Oxytocin is a peptide hormone inducing a contractility effect on the smooth muscles of the uterus, the biliary and urinary ducts and the intestines. It retracts the myoepithelial fibers of the mammary gland of the lactating animals and leads to release of secretion of milk (evokes the “letdown” of milk). Its effect is strengthened by the estrogens, therefore it is best revealed in the follicular phase of the sexual cycle.
For stimulation of the parturient action in weak and inefficient uterine contractions (used only with dilated cervix); in atony of the uterus after parturition; in post-parturient uterine hemorrhages; in retained placenta; in puerperal endometritis; in uterine prolapse; in pyometra, hypogalactia and agalactia after parturition (for milk “letdown”); in mastitis (for removing the milk and inflammatory secretions before administration of intramammary preparations).
Do not apply as an aid to parturition until the needed cervical dilation is confirmed. Do not use in cases of fetal abnormal position.
Intramuscularly, subcutaneously, intravenously (slowly).
