PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION

Flavomycin (bambermycins) is a performance enhancing antibiotic intended and available solely for use in animal nutrition. Flavomycin is predominately effective against Gram-positive pathogenic bacteria. However, it does not have significant action against lactobacillus, bifidobacterium, and other protective bacteria. Its effect is to inhibit the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall.

INDICATIONS

For improved weight gain and feed efficiency in broiler chickens, turkeys and swine.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Not established.

MODE OF ADMINISTRATION

Orally, following good homogenization with feed.

It is approved for combination use with most coccidiostats and feed additive products.

TARGET SPECIES

Chickens, turkeys, pigs.

DOSAGE

Flavomycin is approved for use at one to two grams per ton (US) of medicated feed.

SIDE EFFECTS

Not established.

WITHDRAWAL PERIOD

Flavomycin has no withdrawal requirement. Flavomycin is not absorbed by the intestine and no measurable residues are found in edible tissues even when fed at up to 50 times the normal recommended dosage.

STORAGE

Store in a cool dry place.

SHELF LIFE

Two (2) years from the date of manufacture.

FURTHER INFORMATION

Flavomycin has no precautions or warnings to humans on its label pertaining to mixing and handling and is non-hazardous when used according to label directions. There is no significant effect on the environment since bambermycins excreted in the feces is rapidly degraded in the soil and in lagoons by natural organisms and is not absorbed by plants grown in soil containing manure of animals fed Flavomycin. Cattle and horses can safely graze pastures containing manure of animals fed Flavomycin.
