Pharmacological action:

In comparison with the other Aminoglycosides, Apramycin shows significantly higher antibacterial activity in lower doses. It is stable against almost all of the Aminoglycoside-modifying enzymes, which explains the exceptionally rare instances of resistance against it. Its application is successful also in cases when the more often used Aminoglycosides seem to be non-effective.

Apramycin is applicable for treatment of a number of diseases in calves, pigs, lambs, chickens and rabbits. The therapeutic spectrum of Apramycin includes: Bordetella bronchiseptica, Brucella spp., Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp., Pasteurella multocida, Pseudomonas spp., Klebsiella aerogenes as well as some Gram-positive microorganisms as Staphylococcus spp. and α-haemolytic Streptococci. It is not recommended to use Apramycin in laying birds if producing eggs for human consumption.

Many studies carried out in vivo and in vitro proved that there are no adverse effects on the cardiovascular, respiratory, urogenital and musculoskeletal systems upon administration of Apramycin, which in practice makes it safe for use.
