Pharmacological action:

Androstenedione is a steroid hormone from the androgen group. In the body, Androstenedione is produced by the adrenal gland and is converted into testosterone or estrone and it is therefore an anabolic steroid. Androgens promote protein synthesis and cell proliferation in target and reproductive tissues. Androstenedione is used as a pharmaceutical intermediate for further synthesis of male sex hormones, corticosteroids and spironolactone.
