Bacterial Chondronecrosis (BCO) and Lameness in Poultry
Bacterial chondronecrosis with osteomyelitis (BCO) is well known to be an important cause of lameness in commercial broiler chickens (Dinev, 2009). The disease was first reported in 1972 (Dinev, 2012) and is nowadays recognized to be the most common cause of lameness in broilers (Wijesurendra et al., 2017). Lameness is one of the main issues concerning animal welfare and subsequently also affecting the economic output of broiler operations all over the world (Nääs et al., 2009).
